MATCH REPORT: Angelo Verheye/KAA Gent/Pro League, Belgium(1st Tier)

Oct 26 2011  Gent  4-4(P4-2)  Club Brugge
Cofidis Cup

KAA Gent played a Belgium Cup match and won through a penalty shootout. The Buffaloes struck early and struck first(6th min). But Club Brugge, the Pro League 5th ranked team would not accept defeat quietly. They struck three times(17, 43, 45) before the 1st half was through. Score, 3-1 for the visiting team.

The second half showed the Buffaloes great offensive power(they are 2nd place in the Pro League) by scoring 3 times in succession to match the opponent. They scored at the 50th, 78th, and 84th minute to lead 4 to 3 with just a few minutes left. At the 85th minute a red card sent of a Club Brugge player and the win was all but assured. Here the controversy began, when the referee counted 4 minutes for injury time yet as the 4th minute passed they allowed a further minute. This was all the time the opponent needed as they scored at 90+4. The game was tied! Although Gent protested vigorously and a player on the bench was actually given a Red card, it was to no avail.

Two extra time period was played with no goals so the game was to be decided by a shootout. Luckily Gent had enough to win it by the score of  4 to 2. Gent moves forward in the Cofidis Cup with a good win, they are in the quarter finals. In regular season games, the powerful Buffalo team is 2nd place.

Angelo V. is a member of the U21/reserve team. They last played the youth team of Clubbe Brugge and lost 1-4. Their overall record is not displayed in their team website.

Angelo is in the Philippine hoping to get his passport from the Philippine authorities so he can join the team in the SEA games.

Next fixture: Oct 30 2011 an away game against Mons, currently in 7th  place.
