Stephan Schröck's SpVgg Greuther Fürth stumbles against Manny Ott's Ingolstadt FC

MATCH REPORT: Stephan Schröck/SpVgg Greuther Fürth/2.Bundesliga, Germany(2nd Tier)

Feb 19 2012 Ingolstadt  0-0  Greuther Fürth

Stephan Schröck's Cloverleafs visited Manny Ott's senior team and comes away with a surprising result. Stephan's SpVgg Greuther Fürth is undoubtedly one of the 2.Bundesliga's most powerful teams. Strong in offense, solid on defense. Ingolstadt(the Schanzers) did not have the weapons to out score the visiting powerhouse so they closed the gates on defense. From the get go, the Cloverleafs had few chances to score, the first attempt was at the 9th minute when Stephan Schröck had a good chance but was effectively stifled. The home team was so engaged on defense that their best chance in attack came just before the half time whistle and it was a poor attempt. 0-0 at the end of the first half.

it was more of the same in the early second half. Ingolstadt had its best chances in the game at the 50' that was barely poked away by the Cloverleaf keeper. Stephan Schröck was very involved on attack from the midfield position(54' & 65'). The break that Greuther Fürth was looking for occured in the 80' when a bad tackle was red carded. One man advantage for Stephans team. Unfortunately Ingolstadts defense were able to outlast the last dozen or so minutes of
Greuther Fürth attack. Final score, a disappointing 0-0 tie.

Greuther Fürth falls to third place(with 2 points separating the leader) while being tied by Ingolstadt who is second from last place at 17th. The team has been shaky ever since the winter break, its record being 1 win 1 draw and 1 loss.

Stephan Schröck started and played the whole match.
Next fixture: Feb 25 2012 a home game against Bochum, currently in 9th place.

  2. well its a FIFA friendly date, so the only thing stopping him are injury or if he doesn't want to play. Keep in mind his team is in a very tight battle for top dog in their division and he might not want to risk aggravating his recently healed injury or possibly getting a new one. I'd love to see him play again though, can you imagine Schröck, Mulders, Cagara, Lucena, Wolf and Juan Luis Guirado on the pitch at the same time?! :-)

    1. But I don't think he has a choice right? The team can always ask him to represent the country especially if it's under FIFA calendar. But of course most of the tournaments we join doesn't fall under those dates.

    2. He has a choice. If he doesn't want to, they can't force him OR he can just say my foot's hurt and that would be that.

  3. What a lineup that would be!
