2011/12 End of Season report: Rob Gier and Ascot United FC

A rare photo of Rob in Ascot United kit!
Less than a middling team, is how one can describe Rob Gier's Ascot United last season. It survived a bad campaign season and is ready to begin climbing the table for the 2012/13 season.

It is important to note that Rob was away from the team for more than half a season either from supporting the Azkals in its FIFA friendly games, the AFC Challenge Cup campaign where he effectively was the Captain of the team and led the Philippines to its highest ever major tournament results(a 3rd place finish as an underdog team all the way), or because of injury, suffered in the Los Angeles Galaxy vs Azkals exhibition game.

Rob was also in the roster of current UFL Philippines 2011/12 champions, Global FC beginning around the middle of Jan 2012. Read report HERE .

The Azkal co-captain and center back fixture generally plays right back for Ascot United FC.

Ascot United played an incredible 40 league games not including FA Cup games and the like. The team finished with an 11-11-18 record good enough for 14th place in the 21 team Uhlsport Hellenic Premier League(9th tier). They scored 71 goals but allowed 82! Their goal scored is actually good enough for 10th place yet defensively they were a mess.

NOTE: The picture above was his debut for the Azkals in 2009 for the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifiers. In March of 2012 he led the team to the games conclusion. A third place finish, a historical high for the Philippine national team.

Sometime late last year the team brought in some help, their scoring went up but defensively they stayed the same. Closer to the end of the season they also obtained new help to no avail.

Rob last played for Ascot United on Nov. 22 a loss against Flackwell Heath until his sudden appearance in the teams last 2 fixtures.

Draw Apr 4 Highworth Town  2-2  Ascot United - Started, full 90' at RB

Loss Apr 7 Reading Town  3-1  Ascot United - Started, full 90' at RB

Pre season training just began on Thursday the 21st of June. Here's wishing Rob and Ascot United FC a better season than last!
