ROB GIER, is a new Global FC member and the Belgians are coming...!

Rob Gier
Long time Philippine NT center back and Azkal European representative has made an unexpected move!

Although no "official" announcement have been released(at the time of writing), it seems Mr. Rob Gier has decided to be temporarily based and play for UFL powerhouse Global FC. As of Jan 10 he arrived from England and is now in the Philippines. If speculations are correct this is welcome news for the Philippine NT and its preparations for the Challenge Cup. There is a dearth of quality center backs for the NT at this time. It is important to know that Aly Borromeo the current NT Captain and defensive stalwart is recovering from knee injuries and is likely not going to play significant minutes in the Challenge Cup if at all, therefore it is good to know that Rob will at least be available and have enough practice time with the National Team.

Jacques van Bossche
Other options for the Center Back positions are 2nd stringer and sometime starter, speedy defender Jason Sabio. U23 player Jacques Van Bossche, who will be coming to the Philippines on or around Feb 14th and Juan Luis Guirado the older brother of Angel who also plays in the Spanish Tercera Division. German-Filipino Oliver Pötschke who played well in the last addition of the Long Teng Cup however has not been called up. Note that Jacques was one of the few who played well in the recent SEAG debacle as a center back.
Oliver Pötschke
Jacques, along with fellow Belgian Jeffrey Christiaens and Angelo Verheye arriving on or around Feb 14th will most likely play in the Hassanal Bolkiah Cup U21(reinforced) games which will start on Feb 21.
Veteran NT player Jason Sabio
Meanwhile, U23 stalwart and sometime senior team player Carli de Murga has also made a move to the Philippines to play for Global FC. Carli is a very speedy right back who also plays the right winger position. Though, again, "official" word has yet to be announced. New information are always coming out or may change so stay tuned!

ADD: Juan Luis Guirado, while not yet in the Philippines is in the roster of UFL 1st division team Global FC and Simon Greatwich with UFL runner up Loyola Meralco Sparks. He joins fellow Fil-Brits the Hartmann and Younghusband brothers.

  2. Hi Angel,
Although there hasn't been an "official" roster released for this charity match, I would think that he would as he has always supported the national team. As for the schedule conflict with UFL(he is a Global FC player now)Santi Araneta and crew had a meeting today(I believe) to iron out any schedule conflicts so that National Team players will be released to play against the Korean squad.
