PROMOTION for Roland's reserve/youth team MSV Duisburg II. Last season they were a powerhouse team in the NRW Liga(Oberliga 5th tier). For the next season 2012/2013 they will be in the newly revamped Regionalliga which is the 4th tier of the German football pyramid. Manny Ott, new Global FC player Patrick Reichelt and newly released Denis Wolf also plays or has played in the Regionalliga.
Roland alternated with 21 yo Marcel Lenz as the keeper for the team, with Roland having played a slight majority of the games.
MSV Duisburg II finished with a 19-8-7 record and 3rd place in the 18 team NRW liga. They scored 67 goals and allowed only 30. Unfortunately their weakness is goal scoring as they have the lowest goals scored in the top 6 teams. Look for them in the Regionalliga next year!
The senior team, MSV Duisburg of the 2.Bundesliga started out badly and was on the verge of the relegation zone for much of the early and mid season. Fortunately they pulled it together and finished mid pack with a 10-9-15 record. MSV Duisburg finished 10th in the 18 team 2.Bundesliga.
It is important to note that MSV Duisburg lists Roland in the roster of the SENIOR team rather than MSV Duisburg II. Roland is the 3rd goalie for Duisburg who keeps a total of four keepers. Roland was called up to play with the senior team 3 times but only as a substitute in 2011/12, with the Felix Weidwald and Florian Fromlowitz tandem effectively taking all the pitch time.
