Who the Hell is CF Madrid?!

That's the first thing I asked myself as I initially heard the news a few days back. Then a troubling retraction of the event by an "official" Azkal website(who initially broke the news), saying: "We just wanted to check if people do read the website. And they do! You do! Sorry for the riot, let the real stories begin." Not exactly a fan winning move. Fortunately the team is once again scheduled to come to the Philippines, unfortunately it's because of a tragedy in the form of Typhoon Sendong.

For the life of me I could not find a CF Madrid until the said website gave a clue saying the teams real name was CF Internacional Madrid. That was the clue I needed to finally get to know this Spanish mystery club.

The CF Madrid that media in the Philippines chose to call this team is unfortunately wrong(more on this later). The true name of the club is Club de Futbol Internacional de Madrid or as it likes to call itself and other western online sites, Internacional, Internacional de Madrid or Inter. Internacional plays in the Spanish Tercera division and the team is in group 7. There are over +200 teams in all 18 groups. Group 7 has a total of 20 teams and Internacional is(as of this date) 13th in the 20 team group. They have a record of 5 wins 7 draws and 6 loses. They are currently in a winning streak that will undoubtedly bring their rankings up later on in the season. Out of the recent 5 games, they have managed to lose one and win four. In 18 league games they have scored 17 goals and have allowed 17. While I will not say this is an easy game for the Filipino booters, they are not like the "real" Madrid team that we all know and love/hate. So don't call them CF Madrid because if you were in Spain and asked for a CF Madrid in the Tercera division you're liable to get the "REAL" Madrid team. Yes there is a Tercera division team called Real Madrid III and it is in the same group(7) as Internacional. And yes, Real Madrid III is the lower division brother of the team you're thinking of right now.

So there now you know who the hell CF Madrid is. I hope there is no false alarm this time and if you can go to the game on Jan 7th don't forget to bring some extra cash, clothes, foodstuff, bottled water or whatever you can give for our countrymen in dire need in Cagayan de Oro/Iligan. If not, head on down to your local LBC branch and ask how you can help. More information is currently being put out so please follow @santiaraneta and @craigburrows on twitter as they are members of the group who initiated this charity event.

* Internacional has a league game on 1-8-2012, are they going to forfeit this game or??
