BREAKING NEWS! Jerry Lucena moves to new SuperLiga team Esbjerg fB

An undisputed member of the Philippine national football team "Dream Team", Jerry Lucena, last of Danish premier league team AGF Aarhus has signed a 2 year contract with newly promoted team Esbjerg fB. Jerry had a contract with AGF until June 30 2013 yet was allowed to sign with Esbjerg fB. The 31 yo right back has been with AGF Aarhus for 5 years and has played over 150 games for them.

In an AGF release, they have said that Jerry requested the transfer so that he would be back to what he considers as his home and that he and his immediate family are eager to return. Jerry, in his younger years played for Esbjerg and relishes the chance to do it once again. AGF meanwhile has said that it has a big hole on the right back position that they need filled as soon as possible.

AGF issued this statement(translated via Google):

"Jerry has done a fantastic job in the white shirt. He is highly professional, dedicated and always puts the team in the front row. These are characteristics that are always needed in a squad, and therefore we would also like to have kept him. But when he a few weeks ago even asked to be released from his contract, we chose to answer his call of thanks for faithful service. On behalf of AGF, I would like to thank Jerry for his contributions on and off the field over the past five years and wish him and his family all the best luck with the new challenges, says Brian Steen Nielsen, who is working to find a substitute for Lucena, as in the past season mostly served as right-back."

Esbjerg fB last season was in the 2nd tier of the Danish football pyramid(1st division) but for the coming 2012-2013 will return to the SuperLiga where it has been for much of its history. The club was formed in 1924 and is one of the more "trophied" club in Danish football history. In its history it has been in the highest league for 45 of those years. The Blue and Whites certainly are not a stranger to the SuperLiga.

The Blue and Whites only spent the 2010/2011 season in the 1st division. The last time before this relegation was in the 1999/2000 campaign season.

The team plays in the 4th largest arena in Denmark. The "Blue Water Arena" which fits 18,000 and is located in the west coast of Denmark in the Jutland Peninsula.

Good luck to Jerry as he tackles another challenge in the Danish premier league with Esbjerg fB!
