Erstwhile Superliga player, Philippine fan girls(and gays) heartthrob has just been signed by 2.Bundesliga club FSV Frankfurt. From Dennis' Facebook fan site a message has appeared, about an hour from this blog post:
(Translation) Dennis Cagara signed to second Bundesliga club FSV Frankfurt 1899 e.V.!
No official announcement yet except for this fan page notice, I'll update as soon as more info has been released.
You can now watch Stephan Schröck's SpVgg Greuther Fürth, who is number two in the 2.Bundesliga and FSV Frankfurt, 16th in the 18 team league. Though a minnow of the league, FSV Frankfurt has been busy with signing new players to boost its chances to get out of the dreaded relegation zone. Besides Dennis Cagara they have also signed Michael Görlitz an FC Bayern Munich youth academy graduate and former Swedish 1st division player of BK Halmstad among others.
April 22, Mark it on you calendar, Dennis' FSV Frankfurt vs Schröck's SpVgg Greuther Fürth. Don't miss it!!
I'm happy for him but a little worried since I don't think his club will release him for AFC and Malaysia game.
ReplyDeleteI think IF he really is signed(I want to wait for an official news release from FSV Frankfurt) then we can kiss him good bye for the Challenge Cup. As for the Malaysia game its a FIFA friendly so his team is obliged to release him. IF he doesn't want to show up, then that is a personal decision.
ReplyDeleteEither way, I hope he gets a long term contract and show up for at least the Malaysia game.
I think it is somewhat official since they already announced it in the teams official facebook page. So looks like we are not going to see him in the AfC CC.
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that he signed with a good team in a good quality league. The 2 Bundesliga is about the same level as the Danish Superliga, with a chance of getting promoted to the top tier. As you said, I hope he signed a long term contract this time, and not just until the end of the season.
ReplyDeleteIf he is not part of the starting lineup, I hope they can release him for important competitions like the AFC Challenge Cup and the Suzuki Cup, although they are under no obligation to do so.
The only solution to this dilemna is for the AFC to schedule a continent wide qualifying competition to the AFC Cup, that includes the emerging nations, that can be held primarily on FIFA match dates, just like most of the other continents in FIFA.
Never mind. Apparently the contract is only short term(6 months), with a club option to renew it for another year.
ReplyDeleteI guess he has to prove himself first.
Thanks for the link anon! I look at that site too but am less confused with the team site. I knew if it was true it'd pop up any minute and it did!
ReplyDeletecjeagle I think Dennis will wind up with a longer contract. If you check FSV's defensive record right now they are 3rd worst in goal allowed. The quality of Dennis should be welcomed by this team. But yes, I am guilty of bias towards Cagara.
They have also signed a quality forward(Gorlitz) that hopefully can help them move out of the relegation zone.
Too bad we can kiss him goodbye for the AFC CC.
