DEAD LAST is where 33yo Ray Jónsson's UMF Grindavík currently finds itself. In the 2011 campaign season Grindavík saved itself in the very last game of the season when they defeated ÍBV to finish 10th in the 12 team Úrvalsdeild(Icelands premier football league) the 2012 season might be different and for the worst.
The currently on going 2012 season is 10 games old as of this writing and as usual ever reliable Ray is a part of the teams starting XI but contrary to where we are used to seeing the man, he is listed as a midfielder and spends all of his time there as oppose to our more familiar left back.
Below are the 10 games they have played so far with notes on Rays playing time plus the 2 Icelandic Cup match(which surprisingly they've dominated).
Draw May 7 FH 1 - 1 Grindavík - Started, full 90'; Yellow card 84'
Loss May 11 Grindavík 0 - 4 Keflavík - Subbed in, played full 2nd half
Loss May 16 Fram 4 - 3 Grindavík - Started, full 90'
Loss May 22 Grindavík 1 - 4 Stjarnan - Started, full 90'
Draw May 25 Selfoss 3 - 3 Grindavík - Started, full 90'
Draw Jun 3 Grindavík 2 - 2 ÍA - Started, full 90' - Started, full 90'
Icelandic Cup/Win Jun 7 Keflavík 0 - 1 Grindavík - Started, full 90'
Loss Jun 16 Breidablik 2 - 0 Grindavík - Started, full 90'
Loss Jun 21 Grindavík 1 - 3 ÍBV - Started, full 90'
Icelandic Cup/Win Jun 27 KA 2 - 3 Grindavík - Started, full 90'
Loss July 2 KR 4 - 1 Grindavík - Started, full 90'
Win July 6 Grindavík 2 - 0 Valur - Started, full 90'
The team at this time has a league record of 1-3-6 with 14 goals made and allowing 27, last in the league. From a quick look, some of their defeats could be attributed to players receiving red cards in the game and own goals in others plus the severe lack of defense.
Unless the team pulls a heroic turnaround it might be possible to see Ray and his team down to the 2nd tier(1.Deild) next season.
Ray Jónsson's contract with UMF Grindavík ends on Oct 16 2012.
Lets go Grindavík!
